Step 3 : Wisdom

Step 3 of 12: See Step 2 Loyalty

Wisdom – To be wise or to be open to wisdom.

These are not the same things. It is thought to be wise when one uses logical analysis, or reasoning. It is widely accepted that wisdom arrives through experience, but doesn’t this leave out the innate sensitivity or cultivated sensibility of awareness.     What if:

To be aware is to be human.

To be human is to be always listening.

Wisdom is eternally and spontaneously arising in life and only needs acknowledgement and reflection to become part of your experience.

If you allow yourself the opportunity to create your own experience, you will see that Gurus are around you all the time. They can come in any forms. But, one must begin by understanding that cutting corners on your life is not an option: Practice Asteya  Read: Understanding the Mind,  Body, and Spirit, how each of them connect and  Pantanjali’s 8 Limbs.

Gurus are vehicles – they are some sign –  some observational moment where light shines on your darkness. Where you’re guided away from a strong emotion and into a calm abiding. Gurus can be an animal, song, child, scent, or memory. It’s a spirit with a message for you in a language you understand and in the corner of a looking place you regularly see and already waiting in destinations you haven’t yet stumbled upon. By being open, (not resisting or attaching to one particular outcome – yamas) opportunities will flourish, manifesting thoughts into reality, and bringing your future to you..

Your Higher self can pick up sounds, vibrations, and symbols as this is what your spirit speaks, and if you   listen and work at becoming a better listener – even see your being’s purpose as a receiver- you will tap into this consciousness.

“The front part of the body receives information and the back side of the body passes it on. We are receivers of memory, listening stations of cosmic truths in the here and now, and senders to the future. With the front we face situations, we face life, we walk into things, we meet people face on. The front receives heat from psychic energy, and the backside is the cold “chi” releasing side. That is why we have a front side and back side of the body.

We are little broadcasting stations that openly bridge the future while washing all our moments with memory. That is how we know things. We are simply actors in this life unfolding before us and, as we face life, we leave behind our trail of moments for those who come behind us to resonate to.”

-Joseph Rael & Mary Elizabeth Marlow from ‘Being and Vibration

Wisdom is a noun.

It is as a thing to be attained, but it is also a direction to be pursued, a characteristic to acquire, a perception someone may carry with them, an impression you wish to impart on someone else and it is a feeling of serendipity, a perfect alignment with cosmic energies.

Wisdom is gracefully connecting you to your personal evolution. Every moment is a moment to be cultivating how you play with and manifest energy. The beauty of life is to experience (and learn from) yourself.

The energy of Wisdom centers you in your body, but gives you access to experiences outside the physical plane.

Why Do We Warm Up?

The Warm-Up : Please don’t skip this part. Think of it as foreplay.

A warm up can be two minutes or twenty-five minutes. Depending on your fitness level, your entire exercise routine can be comprised of warm ups for the first month. It is just as effective as lifting weights if you are just getting reacquainted with exercise. People think exercise requires weights. It doesn’t.

Why is warming up necessary?

Elevating your heart rate and activating some sleepy muscles is extremely important. Firstly, an elevated heart rate turns up body temperature and circulates warm oxygenated blood to your muscles and this is necessary for all of the work your routine will ask from your muscles and joints. Without oxygen, it becomes more difficult to make and break down energy. Without energy you could never give your exercise 100%.

Specificity is key. It is best to warm up the muscles that you plan to load that day’s routine, but also the pattern of movement that you plan to do. You may not do the exact move in the warm up, but break the movement into smaller parts and then make these smaller parts integral parts of the warm up. This is waking up the connection between your mind and your body, aka the motor control needed for accuracy when and if you become fatigued during this routine. Creating muscle memory for movement is crucial for the success of each exercise in every routine.

Do not forget to include some dynamic stretching, particularly in your areas of tightness. For example the classic warm up an inchworm elevates heart rate, engages all muscles of the core and leg, but best of all, is that it allows one to stretch their hamstrings and lower back while stabilizing the shoulders. Many warm up exercises can also be real-time exercises to include in the routine, depending on their intensity, speed, and load. Some examples of this are body weight squats. This is a warm up for some and yet if done fast or explosively is a full on exercise for others.

Understanding [the] Mind

Mind, Body, and Spirit: The Three Unifying Elements of Humans.

Mind: The mind needs carbohydrates and rest more than it needs anything else.

In essence, the mind is the fat bastard who loves nachos and extra cheese pizza. You know her, all she wants to do is chill, maybe talk about the universe, and you wonder if she is really that lazy. Can anyone be this lazy?

Your brain signals the what, how, and when to everything else in your body.

  • You may not be aware of how much you think, and if you don’t fancy yourself an intellectual, that’s fine. The sheer energy it takes to process the stimulus from a city’s commute, or lets say a binge session of a dramatic television series can really drain brainpower, slow down electrical patterns and overall functioning.

Your brain must sleep. You need downtime to be more effective and attentive during your on time.

  • This on time can be something as benign as work, or a passionate art project, but basically anything that requires sustained cognitive and executive functioning. Without proper rest, you do not have the same ability to process thoughts or emotions and what was once simple and mundane becomes inordinately difficult.

Your mood is directly associated with how well your mind can receive and process information.

  • These are not the same skills. REPEAT. Receiving is not Processing.
  1. Receiving information is the first and most important detail if and when we talk about a mind body connection. One has to trust that the intuitive information they feel or hear from their heart and/or gut. This is a lot harder said than done. Why do you think so many people take prescription medication?
  2. Processing information is the retrieval of your feelings and thoughts. They of course aren’t in English. That would be too easy. No one is writing a well-edited essay about how you feel and emailing it to you. It is all in code, and comprehending each thought and word, which may not be in correct order, is a lot of work and a bit like translation. This is the secondary phase of connecting the mind and body and just as difficult as the first, as is every step in the process of increasing awareness.

What does awareness or mindfulness even mean? This is the art of listening to our inner selves, and when we talk about it like this, it seems like a very kind and obvious thing to do. We are, quite literally, the only one we can talk to. If we continue to ignore ourselves we are the creators of our own alienation and discrimination. The means to achieving this bond with oneself and maintaining the mind-body connection is a process that will look differently for each and every person.

For example: Visual people are much more efficient in translating how they feel into words, as they can see it play out in their mind. However, some adults, maybe with or without a dysfunctional youth, may not have had the ability as children to get to know their inner voice, and now many years later have to retrain their ears, just to be able to listen. These are all equally difficult and important steps to building inner strength.

  • Once the bridge is made connecting how you feel with what you are thinking– its awesome! This aha moment will take you to a new phase. It is here where you will find yourself in what most people call a well-adjusted state, or demonstrating adaptability. This doesn’t mean that all of a sudden nothing bad happens!*

*Side note: We will never be that unfortunate, as each shitty event is a great opportunity to become an even better individual. Never forget that, as it is a sure fire way to understand that becoming upset in the face of conflict is utterly useless. REPEAT. Utterly Useless.

Goals of The Mind Body Connection:

  • You will have the tools to process thoughts and emotions.

  • Your inner strength will give you the words necessary to communicate these feelings outwards.

  • You can achieve understanding and grant compassion to the world around and in you.
